| Description | THE PROJECT WILL HELP OFFSET DIESEL FUELED GENERATION WITH A SOLAR AND BATTERY STORAGE MICROGRID TO SERVE TRIBAL COMMUNITY BUILDINGS WITH RENEWABLE ELECTRICITY THAT WILL ALLOW FOR EXPANDED USE OF THE FACILITIES. THIS PROJECT WILL BRING WORKFORCE BENEFITS TO THE HOPI TRIBE, AS THE APPLICANTS WILL TRAIN COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO OPERATE AND MAINTAIN THE MICROGRID SYSTEM, PAID FOR THROUGH FUTURE POWER SALES FROM THESE FACILITIES. THIS REMOTE MICROGRID WILL BE THE FIRST OF ITS KIND FOR THE TRIBE AND MAY SERVE AS A MODEL FOR ADDITIONAL MICROGRIDS TO SERVE RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL CUSTOMERS ACROSS | THIS PROJECT WILL DEVELOP PUBLIC FACILITIES AT COCHISE LAKE, WINTER HOME OF THE SANDHILL CRANES, SHORE BIRDS, AND HUNDREDS OF WILDLIFE SPECIES. THE PROJECT IS THE NEXT STEP IN THE CITY’S LONG-STANDING EFFORTS TO ENSURE THE PRESERVATION OF THE WETLAND AREAS AND ENHANCE THE VISITOR EXPERIENCE AS A MEANS OF BOOSTING THE LOCAL ECONOMY. |
